Diann Andress, CPDT-KA, AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator

Diann’s lifetime love of dogs has lead to a career in dog training. She enrolled in her first obedience class in 1970 with Jewel, a Pomeranian, and six months later, signed her up for their first obedience trial.  There was no turning back--Diann was hooked!  She enrolled in many more classes and trials with many different breeds of dogs. Since 2000 she and her dogs Butch, an English Pointer, and Dixie, a Coonhound, have been training and competing in agility and obedience.

She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and for the last five years has attended APDT’s five-day educational conference in Orlando, Florida; Denver, Colorado; San Jose, California; Kansas City, Missouri and Portland, Oregon.  Diann is a certified  Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (cpdt-ka)  and an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

For the last six years Diann has been doing private in-home family dog training in basic manners and problem solving.  She believes in giving back to the community in the form of voluntary work, much of which has been with the SPCA and 4-H Dog Program of Polk County. Children from the ages of eight through eighteen are taught how to train their dogs, and show them in 4-H dog obedience competitions.

Her sensitivity to a dog’s personality and temperament, plus positive reward-based training methods, leads to a gratifying experience for both people and their dogs.
There are three main elements in Diann’s program:

1) training by reinforcing appropriate behaviors,
2) management to prevent the repetition of inappropriate behaviors,

3) relationship-building between owners and their dogs.

Mission Statement

My goal is to teach dog owners how to have a relationship with their dogs built on trust and respect. The dog is able to give up his leadership reasonability and look to his human leader knowing that he doesn't have to carry that responsibility any longer. Thus keeping owner and dog together for life.

Tip

Supervise Your Dog

Supervise your dog at all times around children - even if the dog knows the children. Do not allow children to hug and kiss or otherwise maul the dog. If visiting children are bothering your dog, put the dog away or send the children home.
